What are the Coverages under HDFC Ergo Group Personal Accident Insurance Policy?

The HDFC Ergo Group Personal Accident Insurance Policy offers the following coverages:

  1. Accidental Death: HDFC Ergo GPA Insurance Policy pays 100% of the Policy Sum Insured as a Death Benefit for any injury caused due to an accident that immediately or within 12 months results in the death of the Insured. Additionally, if the Insured Person sustains an Injury during the Policy Period which results in him being in Hospital in a Comatose State within 1 month of the date of Injury for continuous period of more than 3 months, the Insurance Policy pays the Sum Insured as mentioned in the Policy Schedule.
  2. Permanent Disablement: HDFC Ergo Group Accidental Insurance Policy pays a pre-determined percentage of the Policy Sum Insured in case of Accidental Injury during the Policy Period that causes Permanent Disablement of the Insured within 12 months of the Accident that caused the Injury.

Temporary Total Disablement (TTD) - Accident Only: If the Insured sustains an Injury during the Period of Insurance resulting in Temporary Total Disablement of the Insured and preventing the employee from engaging in his employment or occupation, the Policy pays a weekly benefit upto maximum of Sum Insured and subject to Time Deductible as specified in the Policy Schedule.
  2. Temporary Total Disablement (TTD) – Illness Only: If Insured contracts Illness during the Policy Period resulting in Temporary Total Disablement of the Insured, the Policy pays a weekly benefit upto maximum of Sum Insured and subject to Time Deductible as specified in the Policy Schedule.

What are the Add-On Covers under HDFC Ergo Group Personal Accident Insurance Policy?

HDFC Ergo Group Personal Accident Insurance Policy offers the following Add-On Covers:

  1. Emergency Medical Expenses – Accident only: HDFC Ergo Group Personal Accident Insurance Policy reimburses the cost of emergency medical treatment that the Insured Person avails due to injury suffered.
  2. Emergency Medical Expenses – Illness only: HDFC Ergo Group Personal Accident Insurance Policy reimburses the cost of emergency medical treatment that the Insured Person avails due to illness contracted during the Policy Period.
  3. Accidental Hospitalization Expenses: The HDFC Ergo Group Personal Accident Insurance Policy pays Medical Expenses of the Insured Employee upto the Sum Insured if he sustains an Injury during the Policy Period which results in Medically necessary Hospitalization. There is also an option to choose coverage for Post-Hospitalisation Expenses and Global Coverage by paying additional premium
  4. Loss of Income/EMI Protector: HDFC Ergo Group Personal Accident Policy pays a weekly/monthly benefit up to the Sum Insured to the Insured Person if the Insured Person is terminated from the employment during the Policy Period. The Benefit is payable after the Termination of Insured Person from employment till the reinstatement of employment with the same or new employer or expiry of Policy Period, whichever is earlier, subject to a maximum of Sum Insured.
  5. Loss of Income – Permanent Total Disablement: HDFC Ergo Group Personal Accident Insurance Policy pays the Sum Insured as mentioned in the Policy if the Insured Person suffers from Loss of Job due to his/her Voluntary Resignation or Termination from the employment within 6 months of sustaining Injury resulting in Permanent Total Disablement.
  6. Loss of Income – Major Medical Illness: HDFC Ergo Group Personal Accident Insurance Policy pays the Sum Insured as mentioned in the Policy if the Insured Person suffers from Loss of Job due to his/her Voluntary Resignation or Termination from the employment within 6 months of diagnosis of Major Medical Illness provided that the Illness is diagnosed 90 days from first commencement of the Coverage. The Claim under this section is payable only if the Insured survives 7 days.
  7. Child Education Support: If an Accidental Bodily Injury results in Death or Permanent Total Disablement of the Insured, then the HDFC Ergo GPA Insurance Policy pays the Sum Insured as specified in the Policy towards the education of each dependent children of the Insured.
  8. Parental Care Benefit: If an Accidental Bodily Injury results in Death or Permanent Total Disablement, then the GPA Policy pays an amount as specified in the Policy towards Parental Care of each Dependent Parents of the Insured.

The major exclusions under HDFC Ergo Group Personal Accident Insurance Policy are listed below:

  1. HDFC Ergo GPA Insurance Policy does not cover any Claim in respect of death, injury or disablement of Insured Person due to intentional self-injury, suicide or attempted suicide or whilst under the influence of intoxicating liquor or drugs;
  2. The Policy also excludes claim in respect of death, injury or disablement of Insured whilst engaging in aviation or ballooning or traveling in any aircraft other than as a passenger (fare-paying or otherwise) in any duly licensed standard type of aircraft anywhere in the world.
  3. Any Claims in respect of death, injury or disablement of Insured Person due to participation in adventure or professional sports are not covered under the HDFC Ergo GPA Insurance Policy.
  4. HDFC Ergo GPA Policy does not cover any Claims in respect of Death or Disablement resulting from childbirth or pregnancy.
  5. Claims in respect of Accidental Death or Disablement caused due to participation in War, Civil War, Invasion, Revolution, Act of Foreign Enemy etc are also not covered under the Policy.

How to Cancel HDFC Ergo Group Personal Accident Insurance Policy?

An Employer can cancel HDFC Ergo GPA Insurance Policy by sending a written notice to the Insurance Company. If a claim has been made under GPA Policy, no refund would be made. If no claim has been made under the Group Personal Accident Insurance Policy, the premium will be refunded depending on the time the policy has been in effect. The Premium Refund Amount depends on how long the GPA Insurance Policy has been in effect.
