Pet Dog Health Insurance : Plans, Coverage, Medical Aid, Add-On. Claim process.

A Pet Dog Insurance Policy Coverages vary from Policy to Policy. However, most Policies generally cover the following:

Surgery Expenses Cover: This Cover provides reimbursement for Surgical Expenses incurred on the dog for a surgery conducted by a vet at a at veterinary clinic or veterinary hospital, on account of an accident or illness occurring to the dog during the policy period.

This cover also includes Pre and Post-Surgery Expenses incurred on the dog, during the last 7 days and 15 days immediately after the surgery, for the same injury or illness for which the surgery was required upto the Sum Insured.

This Cover normally has a Co-Pay condition of 10% and the Sum Insured for this cover is limited to Rs50000.

Hospitalisation Cover: This Cover provides reimbursement for all reasonable charges incurred for in-patient treatment of the dog at a Veterinary Hospital due to an illness or accidental injury.

This Cover normally has a Co-Pay condition of 10% and the Sum Insured for this cover is limited to Rs10000.

In addition to the Surgery Expenses Cover and Hospitalisation Cover, a Pet Dog owner can opt for the following optional Add-On Covers under a Pet Dog Insurance Policy:

Mortality Benefit Cover:The Dog Owner receives a chosen fixed sum under the Mortality Benefit Cover if the Dog dies due to an accident or illness or has to be put to sleep by the Vet in order to alleviate the dog’s incurable and inhumane suffering due to an illness or accident. In addition, the dog owner will also receive an additional Sum of Rs3000 for the purpose of the Dog’s Cremation or Burial.

This benefit is not applicable if your dog has to be put to sleep due to aggression or if the dog suffers from an illness against which it has not been vaccinated against.

Terminal Diseases Cover:The Dog Owner will receive a Fixed Sum of Rs30000 if the dog is diagnosed with any of the listed terminal diseases such as Kidney Failure, All types of Cancer, Coagulations Disorders, Cardiac Dysfunctions, Distemper or Leptospirosis.

This Cover is available only once during the Lifetime of the Policy.

Long Term Care Cover: The Dog Owner will receive a Fixed Sum of Rs25000 if the dog is diagnosed with any of the listed diseases which require long term care such as Epilepsy, Pancreatitis, Cushing’s Syndrome, Diabetes, Thyroid Dysfunction, Ascites, Glaucoma or Inflammatory Bowel Disease.

This Cover is available only once during the Lifetime of the Policy.

OPD Cover: The OPD Cover provides reimbursement if the dog is diagnosed with the following diseases:  Meningitis, Hepatitis/Liver Dysfunction, Pneumonia, Peritonitis, Inflammation of Prostate Glands, Pyometra, Eye Related Problems except for Glaucoma, Any bodily injury to the Insured dog arising out of accidents etc

This Cover is subject to a Deductible of 10% of the Claim Amount for each and every claim.

Third Party Liability Cover: This Cover under a Pet Dog Insurance Policy provides reimbursement if the Dog Owner becomes legally liable to pay for any Bodily Injury including Death or Property Damage of a Third Party caused by the Dog during the Policy Period involving your dog.

Third Party Liability Cover under a Pet Dog Insurance Policy also indemnifies the Dog Owner for the Legal Expenses and Costs incurred for defending the claims lodged against the Owner.

The Dog Owner can opt for 2 Sum Insured Options under this Cover: Rs5 Lakhs or Rs10 Lakhs

Theft/Lost/Straying Cover: This Cover compensates the Dog Owner upto the Sum Insured if the Dog is Lost or Stolen or Strayed and no recovery has been made after 45 days despite appropriate attempts to trace the dog including advertising and reward.

Entry Age: The Entry Age for this Policy is from 3 months upto 4 years for Giant Breeds and from 3 months upto 7 years for Small, Medium and Large Breeds.

Exit Age: The Exit Age is 10 years for Small, Medium and Large Breeds of Dogs and till the age of 6 years for Giant Breeds of Dogs.
